Hard Disk Drive Host Protected Area (HPA)

The hard disk drives supporting ATA/ATAPI-4 standard allow limiting the quantity of accessible sectors. This capability was given a name HPA (Host Protected Area) and was intended for the creation of the protected data area accessible to an operating system only. Unfortunately, this capability is not realized by any of the operating systems developers.
